Man gets 19-year-old brain dead son's kidney

In a moving case of organ transplantation, a 19-year-old boy declared brain dead in a road accident gave a new lease of life to his father who was given his kidney today.
Gokul, son of Kaliappan of Karadivavi near here, met with an accident recently while driving a car and was admitted to Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) in a serious condition.
He did not respond to the treatment and was declared brain dead, hospital sources said.
On the permission of his relatives, harvesting of organs was carried out today at the hospital and one of the boy's kidneys was transplanted to Kaliappan, suffering from renal failure.
Another kidney was donated to Coimbatore Kidney Centre, while the liver and heart valves were sent to MIOT Hospital in Chennai and the eyes to Aravind Hospital here, they said.
