The court awarded life term to Avdesh, a resident of Narela here, for strangulating the victim as he felt she was a hindrance in the transfer of a plot to his name by his wife.
"Keeping in view the testimony of prosecution witness 1 (Avdesh's wife), motive that accused was pressurising her to transfer the plot and the deceased was hindrance in that, he strangulated her as deposed by his wife and corroborated by the postmortem report...I hold the accused guilty and convict him for the offence punishable under section 302 (murder) of IPC," Additional Sessions Judge Virender Kumar Bansal said.
According to the prosecution, after the death of her first husband, the complainant Radha married Avdesh.
Avdesh came to know that Radha's first husband had left a plot in her name and started pressurising her to sell it or transfer it in his name.
Radha's mother Batahi Devi was against the transfer of the plot. On August 8 last year, the accused came home drunk and picked up a quarrel with his mother-in-law.
Radha woke up to her mother's screams the next day and saw her husband strangulating her, the prosecution said.
