A court here today convicted a man in a dowry death case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for seven years.
The orders were given by Karimnagar Third Additional Sessions Judge K Sujana, according to Public Prosecutor P Ravinder Reddy.
Reddy said complainant Deekonda Nagabhushanam from Sircilla town of Karimnagar district married off his daughter Ramyasree alias Shyamala (24) to one Gajula Thirupathi (32), an electrician from Geethanagar locality of the town.
During marriage, he was presented Rs 2 lakh in cash and 20 grams of gold besides household articles.
However, later, the convict Gajula Thirupathi started harassing his wife Ramyasree physically as well as mentally, demanding additional dowry.
When her parents expressed their inability to pay additional dowry, he decided to murder his wife.
On June 18, 2012, at about 3 pm, Thirupathi took his wife Ramyasree on his bike to a hillock at Agraharam village outskirts under Vemulawada police limits, tied an electric wire around her neck, killed her and left the scene.
Nagabhushanam found his daughter's body in front of a temple at Agraharam village.
Based on his complaint, Vemulawada police registered a case after which Sircilla Deputy Superintendent of Police Janaki Dharavath investigated the case.
