A local court today awarded three years jail term to a man and two years each to his father and mother in connection with a dowry case registered by his wife 12 years ago.
A sub-divisional judicial magistrate Anant Kumar found the three guilty of demanding dowry from the petitioner, but acquitted six others named in the case for want of evidence.
The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the three.
The petitioner had lodged a complaint with the Vaishali chief judicial magistrate court on June 16, 2005 stating that her husband and in-laws were demanding Rs 10 lakh as dowry to start a business.
In the complaint, she had said that she was thrown out of her marital home when she could not fulfill the dowry demand, her advocate Sanjay Kumar Sinha said.
