Navi Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested a 49-year-old man from Panvel in Raigad district of Maharashtra for allegedly repackaging spurious liquor in branded bottles.
Police suspect the accused, Ranjan Shivram Shetty alias Ranjankumar, is part of a racket that is involved in selling spurious booze by repackaging it with popular brands, an officer said.
"Shetty is a resident of Ambernath. Police raided two rooms in a chawl in Nagzari in Panvel and seized material including cheap liquor and 3300 empty bottles of various reputed IMFL brands, valued at Rs 3,30,350," he said, adding that the cheap quality booze was mainly sold in Maharashtra and neighbouring Gujarat.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
