Man held for driving wife to suicide

A 35-year-old man was today arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of his wife at a village here, police said today.
Archana Pawar (30), wife of Dahagaon resident Ananta Pawar, had allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on November 25, Sahapur police station sub-inspector K D Muthe said.
That time, police registered a case of accidental death.
However, a probe later revealed that the woman's husband, who is a habitual drinker, used to have frequent quarrels with her. He also used to beat her up and doubted her character, the police officer said.
Frustrated with the constant harassment, the woman ended her life by consuming poison, he said.

Subsequently, an offence was registered against the woman's husband last night under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC and he was arrested today, police added.
