The cub was axed to death yesterday by Shankar Chhotubhai Nayka at his house in Kaliyari village of Navsari district.
Nayka himself went to the forest office and informed that in the wee hours yesterday, the animal got trapped in a net lying in the backyard of his house. As it was dark, he thought that it was some "wild cat" and thus he hit the feline with an axe.
Later, forest officials went to his house and seized the carcass which has been sent for autopsy and its viscera samples have been sent to Surat for forensic examination.
