Man held for smuggling in gold from Doha

A man from Karnataka who allegedly tried to smuggle gold, estimated to be worth Rs 34 lakh, from Doha was today arrested from the Kolkata airport, officials said.
After he landed at the airport from a Doha flight, Riyaz Ahmed was caught with 1.25 kg gold hidden in his shoes during customs checking.
The gold estimated to be worth Rs 34 lakh was seized by custom officials and the man arrested.
This is the third incident of gold smuggling reported at the Kolkata airport in the last 15 days.
