Man held for stealing jewellery from car parked in 5-star

A 36-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly stealing jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh from a car parked in the VVIP area of a five-star hotel in the Chanakyapuri locality here.
Gurvinder Singh was arrested yesterday from General Taxi Stand in Ashok Vihar and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh in cash were recovered, BK Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), said.
The alleged theft took place on April 30 from the car parked in the Ashoka Hotel.
Police said they received a complaint on the day that a bag containing jewellery and cash kept in the dickie of a car were stolen.

The valuables belonged to one Aakash, who had come here from Churu in Rajasthan for the wedding of his sister and was staying at a hotel.
Bags containing jewellery, cash and clothes were kept in the dickie of his car and while he picked up the other items, he left the bag of valuables in the vehicle itself as he left for the wedding which was taking place at another hotel.

After the wedding ceremony, when he reached the hotel he was staying at, he found the bag was missing.
Police examined CCTV footage from the area around the place of incident and security guards were examined.

Based on the leads thus found, a raid was conducted and the accused was arrested.
The accused told police he had stolen the bag containing valuables from the parked car since its dickie was open.
The bag contained gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh and Rs 6.70 lakh in cash.
