Man held for threatening to murder transgenders

A 32-year-old man, a history-sheeter, was arrested and detained after he allegedly harassed and threatened to kill some transgenders, police said today.
K Vijayakumar, a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Orikkai village near here has many criminal cases against him including attempts to murder, damage to public properties and inconveniencing the general public, police said.
Two days ago, he allegedly harassed some transgenders at Valathottam Salai area which led to an altercation. When the issue escalated, he gave murder threats, police said.
He also issued murder threats to another transgender, M Pavithra, asking her to vacate her house in the area.
He was arrested later during a vehicle check. Two sickles were seized from his car, Magaral (Kanchipuram District) police said.
Based on the recommendation of the District Police Superintendent, the District Collector authorised Vijayakumar's detention. He was booked under the Goondas Act and lodged in Vellore Central Prison.
