Man held with 2,500 kg ganja

A team of Special Task Force of Kolkata Police arrested one person and seized 2,500 kilograms of ganja from his possession, police said Wednesday.

Parag Jyoti Saikia (31), a resident of Assam and presently residing at an apartment in New Town, was arrested after police seized the huge qiantity of contraband from him, a police officer said.

The accused was arrested last night from Rai Charan Sadhukhan Road near R G Kar Road under Ultadanga police station limits, the police officer said.

Initial investigations revealed that the accused used to procure ganja from northeastern states and bring them to West Bengal, he said.

"He used to be the middleman. We are talking to him to know if he belonged to any gang, the officer said adding that the accused has claimed to have completed a management course from an institute in Salt Lake.
