The Tribunal directed the United India Insurance Company, insurer of the DTC bus, to pay Rs 30,01,456 in favour of the wife and two minor children of victim Rajesh Kumar who was riding a motorcycle when he met with an accident near ISBT here in January this year.
"After considering all the documents (FIR, mechanical inspection report etc) filed by petitioners as a whole, it is clear that respondent 1 (driver) was driving the bus in a rash and negligent manner," MACT Presiding Officer Sanjeev Kumar Singh said.
Due to the impact, Rajesh fell down on the road and his head got crushed under the tyre of the bus. He died on the spot.
Rajesh, a resident of Shahdara here, worked at a jewellery store on a salary of Rs 20,000 per month and is survived by his wife and two minor sons. Meenakshi had approached the Tribunal seeking a compensation of Rs 40,00,000 for the untimely loss of her husband.
