A 22-year-old man allegedly involved in the murders of both former MLA Bharat Singh in March 29 and his driver, who was an eye witness in the case, four days ago, has been arrested from Gurgaon, police said today.
The accused identified as Ravi Shokeen alias Chuja, went absconding after Singh's murder and the Crime Branch of Delhi Police failed to track him. He was later declared a proclaimed offender with a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, said police.
Shokeen's name resurfaced after the police arrested a woman in connection with the murder of Singh's driver Vipin near Japanese Park in outer Delhi's Rohini sub-city, they said.
Shokeen was one of the accomplices of Hemant, another accused in Bharat Singh murder case who the Crime Branch failed to track down, and his brother Aditya Shokeen, who allegedly gunned down Vipin on Tuesday evening, said police.
Vipin was honey trapped with the help of a woman who was a friend of Aditya. The woman contacted Vipin, who was married and had two children, over a social network site.
On Tuesday, the woman had called Vipin for a meeting and convinced him to take her near Japanese Park, where he was allegedly murdered by a group of assailants comprising Hemant (still at large), the Shokeen brothers and two others, said police.
"Yesterday, police received a tip off that Shokeen would come near the CNG pump at Rajeev Chowk in Gurgaon, following which a trap was laid and he was arrested. The police also recovered a pistol and four cartridges from his possession," said DCP (Southwest) R A Sanjeev.
During interrogation, it also emerged that Ravi Shokeen and Hemant had allegedly tried to shoot down Vipin outside his house on August 12, but he escaped, following which a case of attempt to murder was registered at Baba Hari Dass Nagar police station, said police.
Vipin was not only Singh's driver but a prime aide of Singh and his brother Krishen Pehlwan (also Vipin's employer after Singh's death). His murder was the fallout of a long-standing feud between Singh-Pehlwan and one Udaiveer Kale (arrested after Singh's murder), police said.
