Man killed in fight over chicken dish at engagement function

An argument followed by a fight between two groups over not being served chicken dish during an engagement function led to a 28-year-old man being killed and another being injured here today, police said.

They said Ashwaq and his associates allegedly attacked Anwar and his relative Sohail with knives at the function between 1 am and 1.30 am resulting in Anwar's death.

Sohail sustained stab injuries and has been admitted to a hospital.

He is stated to be out of danger, said a senior police official who visited the hospital.

"Both the group members are relatives. At the function Ashwaq entered into an argument with Anwar and Sohail over chicken being not served during dinner," the official said.

They said that the dish was over and arrangements were being made to bring it, but arguments broke out between them and they also fought.

Ashwaq phoned his friends and as per eye-witnesses' reports at least 10-15 persons attacked Anwar and Sohail with knives, the official said.

Two of the attackers have been taken into custody while hunt is on to nab others who fled after the attack.
