Police said that the accused Lalrinsanga (34) alias Sangtea hit his mother Lallianchhungi on her head using a spade at around 4.30 AM inside their house where she died on the spot.
Tuirial villagers caught Sangte, bound him, and informed the Bawngkawn Police Station, whom they later arrested.
According to villagers, the victim-- Lallianchhungi migrated to this village from the East, possibly from Myanmar six years ago with her children and stayed on in the village alone with her only bachelor son after all her daughters were married off.
