A 35-year-old man allegedly committed suicide at a police station here in the wee hours today, police said.
Rafiq Sheikh, who was arrested by the police under section 151 (arrest to prevent commission of cognisable offence) of the CrPC last evening, hanged himself by the window grill of the lockup toilet, they said.
Sheikh, a resident of Shah Alam area, used a shawl to hang himself by the grill of window inside the Ishanpur police station in the city, inspector M N Pandya told PTI.
"Sheikh was apprehended last evening after his daughter called up police control room complaining against him for seeking sexual favour. His wife had also lodged a complaint against him for domestic violence," Pandya said.
"Last night, he tore up the shawl and used it to hang himself by the window grill of the toilet. When he was not found in the lock-up this morning, we searched toilet where his body was found hanging," the official said.
A team of Forensic Science laboratory visited the police station and took samples from the lock-up where the incident took place, while Sheikh's body was sent to city civil hospital for post-mortem, Pandya said.
A case has been registered in this regard, the official said, adding a probe was on.
