The bear was later axed to death by angry villagers, a police spokesman said.
Abdul Kabir Abass was attacked by the bear when he and his companions were proceeding towards Gwalta forest to collect fire wood yesterday, he said.
Abass died on the spot but his associates equipped with axes attacked the bear and killed it.
