The victim, Lalit Aditya, married Sushmita in December last year. They were living in Gujarat before moving back to the city last week, police said.
Four persons came to Aditya's house early this morning and assaulted him. He was hit on the head with a flower-pot, leading to his death, they said.
"It is not an honour killing incident...There was a dispute between the man and his wife and the woman's family members allegedly killed him," Deputy Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal told PTI.
Aditya's mother alleged that his father-in-law and other members of his wife's family had threatened to kill him before the marriage as they were opposed to it.
