Arman Khan was sitting on a bench near his house in a township in Mumbra last night when four men attacked him and one of them shot him from point blank range, Mumbra police station inspector S M Mundhe said.
"Khan was soon rushed to a nearby hospital. The four persons assaulted him in retaliation as he had intervened in a scuffle between an auto rickshaw driver and the four men on Monday," the officer said.
Annoyed over it, the accused arrived at the victim's residence last night, he said, adding Khan and Tarbez picked up a verbal feud, following which Tarbez shot Khan, causing serious wounds.
All the four accused are at large and a manhunt has been launched to nab them, he said.
Police have booked them under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and relevant sections of Arms Act and Bombay Police Act.
