Collector N.Venkatachalam, to whom the couple submitted the memorandum, has forwarded it to the social welfare department to find out if the couple were eligible for wedding assistance as per rules.
Officials said Tamarai (26), a transgender, and Muthu, working in a petrol station, met the Collector yesterday, seeking his assistance under 'Moovalur Ramamritham Ammayar wedding assistance scheme.'
"We have decided to marry. But our parents are against it,and they are trying to separate us.The community is not recognising us..Let the Government recognise it.We request the collector to help us marry by giving wedding assistance, and also a house so that we can live safely," they said in their memorandum.
