Man washed away in canal in Raj

A 36-year-old man was feared dead after being washed away in Kota Dam canal today in Nanta area here, police said.
The victim, Akhilesh Sharma alias Raju, had gone to dump some flowers used in religious ceremonies into the canal when he suddenly slipped and fell into the water, Kunhadi police station Circle Inspector Ram Khiladi Meena said.
Sharma, a resident of Mahaveer Nagar II, was washed away by the strong current of water which had been recently released for irrigation, he said.
The rescue operation by Rajasthan Armed Constabulary and Municipal Corporation personnel was initiated soon after the incident, but Sharma could not be traced till late this evening, the CI said.
