The centres would be opened from December 11 and at least six lakh quintals of paddy will be procured in the district during this season, an official in the civil supplies department said today.
"Around 3,500 quintal of paddy will be procured at each mandi daily. The procurement centres will be opened on Tuesday and Friday. The farmers have been asked to bring fair average quality paddy," said civil supplies officer, Koraput, Ballav Chandra Das.
The officer said tokens will be provided to farmers before the mandis open. "We will generate awareness about the procedure to be followed while selling paddy at the mandis through banners, posters and leaflets," he said.
Money wwould be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the farmers after paddy procurement is complete. All steps are being taken to ensure smooth functioning of the mandis and ensure that the farmers face no difficulty, officials added.
The administration has also decided to install close circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the mandis.
