The entire week is being celebrated as Daughters' Week as part of government's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' programme to check female foeticide, improve sex ratio and educate girls across the country.
Maneka Gandhi has also invited people to tweet their pictures with their daughters-in-law and grand-daughters with #BBPDaughtersWeek.
A statement from the ministry said, "This opportunity is being used by the Ministry to engage citizens to celebrate the young women and girls in their lives, and spread the message of valuing the girl child."
Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat address had asked fathers across the country to click selfies with their daughters. The selfies were then retweeted by the PM.
