A Crime Branch team had arrested Sunil Panwar alias Guruji, Mohammad Zubeir, Praveen Jha and Ranchit Khurana yesterday for running the admission racket using fake academic documents and papers on July 29.
During investigation and interrogation of the arrested accused the cops stumbled upon the names of one Inderjeet alias Kaku who claimed to be associated with Youth Congress and who was instrumental in fake admissions, said a senior Crime Branch officer.
The spokesman of Indian Youth Congress Amrish Ranjan denied that Inderjeet had anything to do with the outfit.
"We examined details of all the Youth Congress office bearers of Delhi, specially Malviya Nagar office bearers but no one with this name could be figured out by us. He is not even a member of Youth Congress, let alone being an office bearer," Amrish said.
Police said that Inderjeet is learnt to have connections with clerical staff of some DU colleges where he allegedly used his political clout for admissions through fake documents that he obtained from Ajit Jha who was arrested earlier.
The racket had succeeded in around 25 fake admissions in various reputed colleges of DU. A large number of fake academic documents of UP, MP and Bihar boars and various universities were recovered by the Police from the house of Ajit Jha.
The racket charged Rs 3-7 lakh from prospective candidates who sought admissions to their chosen courses run by DU colleges.
