'Manjhi' granted tax-free statuts in Uttarakhand

According to a statement, film specialists met Rawat and requested him to waive off tax on the film

After Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand has now made Nawazuddin Siddiqui's latest film "Manjhi - The Mountain Man" tax-free in the state.

The Ketan Mehta-directed film, which released today, was granted the tax-free status by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

According to a statement, film specialists met Rawat and requested him to waive off tax on the film.

"Manjhi - The Mountain Man" is based on the life of Dashrath Manjhi, a poor labourer hailing from Gehlaur village in Gaya district widely known as the Mountain Man.

He had laid a road through the mountain using only hammer and chisel in memory of his wife who passed away without medical treatment as travel to the nearest hospital took a lot of time due to the mountain.

The film sees Nawazuddin in the role of Dashrath Manjhi, while Radhika Apte plays his wife.
