The Maoists today killed a tribal man at a village in Rayagada district after accusing him of being a police informer and warned the villagers to desist from helping the police.
The police said that the deceased had been identified as Mali Sikoka whose body was spotted a few kilometres away from Sapalajhola village, about 90 km from Rayagada.
Another person abducted by the Maoists was released.
According to villagers, a group of 20 to 30 Maoists raided Sapalajhola village and abducted the two persons suspecting them to be police informers.
Meanwhile, Rayagada Superintendent of Police K Siba Subramani brushed aside the allegation of the deceased being a police informer.
"The deceased has no links with the police. We have never received any information from him," Subramani said adding an investigation was under way.
