The deceased villager has been identified as Rohini Nachika (35) of Borgipalli village, bordering Andhra Pradesh, under Narayanpatna police limits.
Sources said around midnight yesterday, around 25 to 30 armed Maoists barged into Nachika house and slit his throat.
Through letters left at the crime spot, the Maoists have alleged that Nachika was punished as he was working as a police informer.
"Never ever we had received any information for our anti-Naxalite operation from Nachika. The Maoists have murdered him for other reason, which is under investigation," said SDPO (Laxmipur) Hemant Kumar Padhi.
