Maoists would target important stations including, Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata and metro rail stations in the city, Eastern Railway today said.
"Information has come that Maoists are targeting Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata and Metro Railway stations," an Eastern Railway release said here.
"Maoist posters have been found at some railway stations of Eastern Railway like Ratanpur and Kajra railway stations in Jamalpur-Kiul section of Malda Division," the release said.
Security has been strengthened at all these places, it said.
Extra security measures have also been taken in view of the terror strike at Gurudaspur in Punjab, the release said.
With the "ongoing terrorist activities and threats by different groups including Maoists throughout the country, railway has emerged as an area of soft target," it said.
Eastern Railway has made necessary security arrangements at Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata Terminal and metro railway stations to meet any exigency.
Sniffer dogs were being used for checking at important stations, passenger areas as well as mail, express, passenger and EMU trains. Special watch was also being kept at crowded places like computerised reservation counters, cloak rooms, waiting halls, toilets and especially concourse areas.
"Quick reaction teams have been formed and all the divisions of Eastern Railway like Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol and Malda have been alerted to gear up their security machinery to combat any sort of sabotage or terrorist activities," the release added.
