Marathon held to pay tributes to those killed in road mishaps

A large number of people, including schoolchildren, participated in a marathon held here today to pay tributes to those killed in road accidents.
The event was organised by the transport department of the Uttar Pradesh government to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
It was for the first time that a marathon was organised on the occasion.
A large number of schoolchildren, athletes and people participated in the marathon that started from K D Singh Babu Stadium here, an official spokesman said.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary (Transport) Kumar Arvind Singh Dev said for the first time such an event was organised in all districts of the state.

He appealed people to keep patience while driving as it could prevent accidents.

Dev said driving in a hurry would save only 5 to 10 minutes.
He said while rash driving increased the possibility of accident, it was minimal if patience is maintained.
Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) made people take resolve about not driving without helmet or seat belt.
