Married couple commit suicide in Nagpur

A married couple allegedly committed suicide here due to reported opposition from their respective families for the wedding, police said.
25-year-old Sharad Satish Gedam and his wife Barkha Subhash Sirsath (19) took the extreme step yesterday by hanging themselves from a ceiling in their house in the Danteshwari slums in Dhantoli area, a release by Nagpur police said.
A suicide note purportedly written by Barkha was found in the house.
"Please hand over my body to my parents and Sharad's body to his parents for (the) last rites. I have not cheated my family," Barkha wrote in the suicide note.

According to police, Barkha and Sharad had tied the knot around two years back.
Prima facie, both Barkha's and Sharad's families were not reportedly ready to accept their marriage, police said.
Sharad's sister Sujata informed police that the duo met for the first time during a function at Karanja Lad in 2005, it added.
A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered in this regard, police said, adding investigations is on.
