Mauritius regulator opens representative office in India

The Financial Services Commission, Mauritius today said it has opened its representative office in Mumbai, a move that will further strengthen and deepen its partnership with its Indian counterparts.
The Financial Services Commission, is the integrated regulator for the non-bank financial services sector in Mauritius.
The representative of the Commission in India will be P K Kuriachen. He was former Chief General Manager of Sebi and has been closely involved with the Commission over the years.
"The setting up of the FSC Mauritius office in Mumbai will enlarge the scope of collaboration between both the regulators," said S Ravindran, Executive Director of Sebi.
The office of the Commission is currently housed within the Mauritius Consulate in Mumbai.
"Through this office, we will remain connected to the latest development in the Indian financial services landscape, including the regulatory and business environment," said Harvesh Seegolam, the Chief Executive of the Commission.
Through its presence in Mumbai, the Commission is establishing the mechanism to further strengthen and deepen its partnership with its Indian counterparts across various segments in line with international best practices in the fields of capacity building, financial literacy and exchange of expertise, the Commission said in a release.
More than 100 professionals from the Indian financial services industry, including high level representatives of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) attended the event held in Mumbai yesterday.
