Complaints pertaining to ATM transactions and non-adherence of fair business practices topped among the complaints, Banking Ombudsman (Chandigarh) R K Sood told reporters here today.
The share of complaints against nationalised banks was at 68.11 per cent out of total 3,963 complaints filed in 2013-14 ((July to June).
There was a marginal decrease in the number of complaints received against SBI and its associates from 1,110 to 1,015 in 2013-14, he said.
Complaints against private banks and old private banks were 22.38 per cent and 9.51 per cent respectively, as per the report.
The share of complaints with regard to ATM transaction was at 24.54 per cent while complaints pertaining to pension cases were at 14.38 per cent, he said.
Banking Ombudsman said because of growing awareness among people grievance redressal scheme, the complaints from rural areas rose from 7.55 per cent last year to 11.1 per cent.
"Similarly, the number of complaints received for personal matters increased from 92 per cent to 95 per cent," he said.
Though number of complaints pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of money through cloning of ATM cards were almost negligible, Sood said a total of Rs 54.36 lakh was paid to customers on the orders or advice of Ombudsman in 92 disputed ATM cases and 12 non ATM cases.
