Failing to file their responses on three different occasions since April 2011 irked a bench of Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw which also summoned the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Vice Chairman and Principal Secretary of Environment Ministry of Delhi government to remain present before it on May 23, the next date of hearing of PIL.

The court, which was hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by one Salekh Chand Jain through counsel Sugriv Dubey, also imposed a cost of Rs 15,000 on the government and the housing body and directed them to file their responses by May 23.

In his plea, Dubey said that "after the occurrence of the radiation in Mayapuri market, the government had installed about 25 micro chips at different places for identification of articles from which the radiation could be emanate but due to non-maintenance, those chips have gone missing."

The petition had sought the court's direction to "install machineries at different places to keep a watch on the level of radiation throughout the city."

He further sought the court's direction for identification of the industrial units using the scrap with the possibility of radiation from them during their melting by the units. MORE
