Shanmuganathan today flagged off a unity run here as part of the nation-wide National Unity Day celebrattion commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Addressing the gathering before flagging off the run, the Governor said that the main purpose of observing National Unity Day was to instill the spirit of oneness and unity among the people of of the country.
He said observance of the day was to create awareness about the contribution of Sardar Patel in the country's Independence Movement and towards ensuring national integration.
Shanmuganathan led the gathering in taking the National Unity Pledge to dedicate themselves in preserving the unity, integrity and security of the nation and to strive hard in spreading the message among the fellow countrymen.
