'Meghe Dhaka Tara' is in sync with Ghatak's cinema: Director

Kamaleswar Mukherjee, whose 'Meghe Dhaka Tara' is inspired by the life and works of Bengali director Ritwik Ghatak, said he followed the non-linear narrative of the legendary filmmaker in his cinema.
"While doing research on Ritwik, I always kept in mind that he stuck to a non-linear narrative pattern which I also followed in the movie," Mukherjee said.
Mukherjee said they had researched for one year to film all the incidences of Ghatak's life well.
"We have not deviated from any incident confronting his life and all the facts in the film are well-documented.
"While focusing on Ghatak's days at the sanatorium we had shifted between the past and present and sought to visit his form of cinema, how he journeyed effortlessly between past and present in his works but never left his audience in the lurch," he said during the premier of his film.

Kamaleswar, who had been intrigued by Ghatak's views on life and society ever since he got hooked to cinema, said he even consulted with the filmmaker's family.
"We dealt on the thought space of Ritwik, who was restive for not being properly understood, and how he reacted to the socio-political situations during his time and beforehand and I took the inputs from his wife Surama Ghatak, daughter Samhita, close associate and writer Nabarun Bhattacharya."
He said the film's reference point was derived from Ghatak's 'Jukti Takko Aar Gappo'.
