This weekend was certainly a special and memorable one for Gorakhpur and its residents, as the city eagerly awaited the arrival of its favourite son Aditya Nath Yogi for the first time after he assumed office of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
People shouting slogans eulogising Yogi and the continuous sound of conch shells only made the atmosphere more vibrant. And as Yogi arrived at the Maharana Pratap Inter College, the crowd's excitement assumed exponential proportions.
The Chief Minister was greeted with slogans of "Jai Shri Ram", "Vande Mataram" and "Bharatiya Janata Party Zindabad" as he waved to the crowd which was anxiously waiting for a glimpse of him.
After his public meeting, Yogi headed straight to the Gorakhnath Temple, where he offered special prayers. Even as Yogi was offering his prayers at the temple, the public which had gathered outside the temple was heard shouting "Yogi-Yogi", and people were seen virtually jostling with each other to get a vantage position from where could catch a glimpse of the Chief Minister.
Revered as a hardcore Hindutva icon by his supporters and considered to be a face of hardline Hindutva, the saffron-clad Yogi started his speech raising the slogan of "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram" thrice, and ended his speech with "Jai Shri Ram".
