Mercury soars in Raj, Barmer sizzles at 44.8 deg C

Normal life took a hit as temperature in most parts of Rajasthan today crossed the 40 degree-mark, with Bikaner sizzling at a high of 44.8 deg C.
People remained in their homes and streets wore a deserted look in the day.
Barmer recorded a maximum of 44.8 degrees, followed by Churu 43.8, Jaisalmer 43.7, SriGanganagar 43.6, Kota 43.5, Jodhpur 43.1, Bikaner 43 and Ajmer 42.2 deg C, Met officials said.
Capital Jaipur recorded a maximum of 41.7 deg C.
The mercury will continue to follow an upward trend in the coming days, the Met forecast said.
