Delhi Metro's Udyog Bhawan station near Rajpath is being remodelled as a 'cultural hub' through the display of various artifacts in order to turn it into the gateway to the National Museum, located few blocks away from it.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the National Museum have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard, under which art works will be put up at both paid and unpaid areas of the Yellow Line (Line 2) station.
"While National Museum will arrange, display as well as maintain the art works, artifacts etc, DMRC will provide the necessary space and other ancillary requirements such as cabling, wiring, civil work etc," a metro statement said.
The displays will be periodically changed by the museum authorities so that the visitors to the station get to see new artifacts and art works from time to time.
The MoU was signed at the Metro Bhawan today between DMRC's Executive Director (Operations) Vikas Kumar and National Museum DG Sanjiv Mittal in the presence of DMRC chief Mangu Singh.
DMRC has entered into similar arrangments with other bodies such as Ministry of Culture, Delhi Tourism, India Habitat Centre, Indian Council of Historical Research as well as independent artists in the past.
Stations across metro's vast network namely Mandi House, ITO, Jor Bagh, INA have a series of display panels and murals depicting the cultural and historical significance of the respective areas.
