Incidents like the tragic death of 23 children after having mid day meal in a school in Bihar are reminders that the country has to progress a lot in many vital areas, HRD minister M M Pallam Raju said today.
"Despite all the progress that we have made as a nation, these incidents bring us back to the reality and tell us that there is a lot to be achieved in the most basic of things," he said.
"I think that is where we have to direct our energies collectively towards strengthening the nation," he said.
He was speaking at an event organised by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers where he was conferred an honorary fellowship.
Raju said that there was a need to build capacity in the areas of primary education and secondary education. He said that there a special emphasis needed to be paid to the quality aspect in education.
The HRD minister further said that in the coming days the manner in which education is imparted would change immensely. He said that online courses are providing options to many people to absorb knowledge at one's own pace. He said that with progress in technology, the way a teacher would impart knowledge under go a huge change.
