The fighter stunned onlookers when he was seen sporting a neck brace at a Las Vegas charity auction held by the World Boxing Council, reported TMZ online.
He went under the knife to have titanium pins inserted to support his neck as a result of an old spinal injury, which had been causing him pain.
A representative said that Tyson is enjoying a speedy recovery.
"It's a very common surgery, especially for athletes. He feels great... Just has to wear the neck brace to keep everything stable for the next three weeks," he said.
Tyson is all set to return to the big screen in 'Hangover 3'.
