The tremor measuring 3.4 on the Richter Scale struck at 3:04 pm, officials of the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) here said.
Surat District Collector Rajender Kumar said the low- intensity temblor had its epicentre in Nandvi town near Surat.
"We have received reports of mild tremor with epicentre near Nandvi town. No reports of loss of life or property have been received," he said.
The mild seismic disturbance caused panic among local residents, who rushed out of their homes.
This is the third earthquake in the state this year with magnitude of more than three on the Richter Scale.
Bhachau town in Kutch district had experienced 3.5-magnitude quake on February 7 and again a 4-magnitude tremor on March 15, according to the data at ISR.
