Militant killed in encounter in Kashmir

A local militant was killed today in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district, about 35 kms from here, police said.
The gunbattle started when security forces came under attack from a house in Gundipora village where they had gone to carry out a search operation following information about presence of militants, police said.
The militants, whose number was not immediately known, hurled a grenade towards security forces from the house but no one was hurt.
The security forces took positions after the grenade blast and engaged the militants, police said.
One militant, believed to be a local, was killed in the gunbattle, police said.
