With three militant attacks in the last couple of days in Jammu and Kashmir, the state's police chief today said anti-national elements and militant outfits would try to disrupt the ongoing Assembly polls in the state.
While reviewing the security arrangements for the second phase of Assembly polls in the state, JK Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar said that the police and other security agencies were ready to foil any such attempt.
"Anti-national elements will try to fulfil their nefarious designs but the police along with other security agencies are ready to foil their attempts, so that people can exercise their franchise in a peaceful atmosphere," he said.
The polls for these constituencies are scheduled to be held on December 2.
The DGP, at the outset of the meeting sought reports from the officers present in the meeting about the arrangements made for second phase elections in Jammu Division by the police and other paramilitary forces in the constituencies of Gulabgarh, Reasi, Goolarnas, Udhampur, Chenani, Ramnagar, Surankote, Mehandar and Poonch-Haveli.
The officers apprised the meeting about the security, deployment and other arrangement for the polling booths put in place by different security agencies.
The DG was told that polling booths have been categorised in different sections and deployments are made as per the requirements and sensitiveness of the polling booths and areas.
"Joint night patrolling in hypersensitive and border areas should be conducted regularly to avert any subversive design of militants.
"High alertness needs to be ensured on the polling day, so that the process ends peacefully as was done in the first phase of elections," he directed the police.
