Minimum temperature drops, dry weather in J-K in coming days

The minimum temperature dropped in most places in Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region, except Srinagar, while dry weather has been forecast for Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days.
Srinagar recorded the minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius, up by over two degrees from minus 0.9 degree Celsius the previous night, a spokesman of Met department said here.
He said mercury in Qazigund at Srinagar-Jammu national highway settled at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, compared to minus 2.8 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Kupwara, in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius, down by nearly four degrees from minus 0.1 degree Celsius the previous night, the spokesman said.

He said mercury in Kokernag resort, in south Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 0.1 degree Celsius as against the previous night's minus 0.5 degree Celsius.
The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, the star attraction for tourists especially skiers from abroad, recorded a low of minus 7.8 degrees Celsius - down by nearly four degrees from minus 4.0 degrees Celsius yesterday, the spokesman said.

He said the minimum temperature in Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, which serves as the base camp during the annual Amarnath yatra, decreased by over six degrees from minus 1.0 degree Celsius yesterday to settle at minus 7.4 degrees Celsius.

The tourist resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg and Kupwara town had received snowfall yesterday while most other parts of the Valley received rains.
The spokesman said Kargil, in Ladakh region, recorded a low of minus 15 degrees Celsius, same as the previous night, adding the town continues to be the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the nearby Leh town in Ladakh recorded a low of minus 8.8 degrees Celsius - 2.2 degrees down from minus 6.6 degrees Celsius yesterday.
The MET office has said the weather would remain generally dry for the few days ahead.
