Union minister Jaswantsinh Sumanbhai Bhabhor on Wednesday expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Central social welfare schemes in Meghalaya.
Bhabhor said the Meghalaya government is looking after tribal welfare schemes according to the guidelines issued by the Ministry.
"We are happy to inform you that Meghalaya is implementing the schemes by the book," Bhabor, minister of state for tribal affairs, told mediapersons after a review meeting here.
He said, under new India initiative, the Centre is working for the upliftment of tribals in the country.
"Till now the tribal affairs ministry has released Rs 127 crore for various works proposed by the Meghalaya government. This year onwards, Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for extending coverage of Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Scheme to the state," he said.
The Union minister also called on Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at his office.
The Tribal Affairs Ministry recently announced establishment of model residential schools in 36 blocks in the state at the cost of Rs 20 crore each. The project will be completed in three years.
