Minor commits suicide over eve teasing

A minor girl, who was distressed over repeated eve teasing by a youth, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at a village here.
The 14-year-old victim, a resident of Iklahra village in the district, was fed up of continous harassment by a youth identified as one Raja alias Imran, the police said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Tiwari informed that the girl consumed poison on the evening of February 21 and died at a hospital in the wee hours today.
"The girl had consumed poison on February 21. She later died in a hospital during the treatment. Police are searching for the absconding accused Raja alias Imran," he added.

Tiwari informed that Badkuhi police post in-charge Nivodita Soni was transferred for not taking action on the complaint filed by the victim.
The victim had filed a complaint against Imran on February 19 at Badkuhi police post but no action was taken against the accused forcing the girl to take this extreme step.

The SP said that the victim had also lodged a complaint against the accused about two-years back and he was arrested at that time.
After being released from the jail, the accused again started harassing the girl.
The police have also arrested the family members of the accused on a complaint of victim's mother, he added.

Heavy police force was deployed in the village due to the tension following the death of the girl, said Tiwari.
