No arrests have been made in the case so far, they said, adding that the victim has been changing her statement.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO and investigation has been taken up, said a senior police officer.
According to the victim, her uncle had taken her to an isolated spot yesterday and allegedly sexually assaulted her. After the incident, the victim went to school and complained of pain.
She complained to the attendant who understood what had happened and took the girl to the principal, police said.
The mother of the victim is a housewife and her father works as a labourer.
The accused has been called for questioning, they added.
