The bodies of two cousin sisters who went missing a week ago have been recovered from the jungles near Khutwa pond in the district, police said today.
The body of one of the girls was found hanging from a tree on Saturday with acid poured on the face to hide the identity, while the dismembered body of her cousin was recovered yesterday near the same spot, police said.
The girls, aged 15 and 16, belonged to Bani ka Majra Muskapur under Gangaghat police station area and went missing on August 31 under mysterious circumstances. After initial searches the parents of the cousin sisters lodged a complaint with the police on Friday, they said.
Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar said all angles were being probed in the matter which prima facie appeared to be a case of rape.
While one of the girls' mother has also alleged rape in the case the bodies have been sent for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death, police said.
