Mixed trend prevails in the food grains market

The prices of thoor dal and sugar increased while that of gram dal and wheat decreased in the wholesale foodgrain market here during the week under review.
Thoor dal opened the week at Rs 8,000 less by Rs 500 per quintal from its previous rate of Rs 8,500, which went up again on Thursday to Rs 8,500 and maintained the same till Friday.
Sugar prices ruled steady till Wednesday at Rs 4,000 and its price rose by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 4,100 on Thursday and finished on Friday, at the same rate of Rs 4,100.
In contrast, Gram dal fell sharply by Rs 800 per quintal to Rs 9,000 on Thursday from its previous rate of Rs 9,800 and ended at the same rate, yesterday.
Likewise, wheat declined by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 3,000 on Thursday from Rs 3,100 and finished on Friday at the same rate of Rs 3,000
However, prices of urad dal (Rs 9,500), moong dal (Rs 6,500), maida (90 kg) (Rs 2,700) and sooji (90 kg) (Rs 3,200) remained steady till today.
The food grains market remained closed today, on account of Pongal festival.
