The Mizoram government has constituted a 'District Re-organisation Committee' headed by state Chief Secretary Lalmalsawma, a senior official today said.
The ten-member committee would examine creation of new districts in Mizoram and make suggestions with proposed jurisdictions, the official said.
The committee would examine boundaries of existing districts and sub-divisions in the state and suggest changes and also look into cases where boundaries of districts and sub-divisions under some departments were to be recognised to align with administrative or revenue districts.
Earlier, in 2008, the then Mizo National Front (MNF) government had created three districts - Hnahthial, Saitual and Khawzawl - but were never officially implemented.
According to the proposal, Hnahthial district was proposed to be carved out of southern Mizoram's Lunglei district, while Saitual and Khawzawl districts were proposed to be carved out from Aizawl and Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai districts, respectively.
